They will either shrink or alter the quality of the fabric in some way. If you don't want to go to the expense of dry cleaning clothes, there are ways to dry clean clothes in your home dryer.





I have tried a product called Dryel with some of my dry clean only clothes and have been pleased.What happens to dryclean only clothes when you wash them in water?
The shrink and rip sometimes.
They will be completly destroyed. I washed some dry clean only shirts one time. All that was left were some shreded pieces of fabric in the washer. I was devastated to say the least.

I know for a fact water spots on Dry Clean only garmet will leave a permanent ring.


Just get it Dry Cleaned. It's professional. They should know what they're doing. Depending on what it is, it shouldn't be too expensive.

It depends what they are made of. Once in a while I've seen clothing that can be hmachine washed , but it says, Dryclean only. i think that is just to protect the manufacterer. Most clothing that needs to be dry cleaned will shrink, or lose it's shape or even fall apart.
For most clothes, you can wash them in cold water, gentle cycle and line dry and steam iron them and they are ok.


Try it on something that is already about to bite the dust and see what happens. All fabrics are different and will react differently.





If it is a wool suit, better dry clean it. If it is a silk blouse or dress you can probably get by with hand washing or even machine washing delicate and stream ironing.

Depends on the clothing. I **THINK** that clothing manufacturers are required to label with a care method, and tend to choose the most conservative/';best'; means, which may default to dry cleaning.





I would look at the fabric content labels carefully first; have successfully machine-washed unlined silks and unlined wools in cold water BUT I was prepared for the possibility of ruining the garment. I would NOT wash a blazer, neckties, anything lined, or anything really expensive. A pair of my husband's dress slacks (wool blend) got washed by mistake and the fabric twisted and shrank.





Your call. If you DO decide to risk it, I'd suggest you try handwashing first----cool water, gentle soap, and dry flat---and be prepared for the chance of ruining the garment.

depends on the fabric but the results can vary from shrinkage, to going out of shape, if there is permanent press on them you can lose them, and it can also affect the colour........i would recommend you follow the instructions....
