Does salt in wash water really help black clothes from fading?

Assuming you are also using cold water, delicate cycle, and no dryer.Does salt in wash water really help black clothes from fading?
To set colors in colored items, soak them for an hour in a mix of 1/2 cup vinegar, 1/2 tablespoon of salt, and 1/2 gallon of water. If the rinse water shows color after an hour, repeat the process. Use this technique only for single-colored items, because multi-colored items may bleed into each other. Multicolored items will likely need to be dry-cleaned.:)Does salt in wash water really help black clothes from fading?

All salt does is soften the water, which will clean your clothes better and rinse them better. That's the reason you use salt; by itself it won't keep clothes from fading, but it will get out all the detergent.
Dark clothes don't fade. The get worn in the washer. Wash inside out to minimize it.
I think so because it breaks up the fuzz that gets on your black clothes which makes them look dull.
Ive heard it does. But also flip your clothing inside out and wash, it will still get clean and Heloise once said its the rubbing of the fabric that causes the fading too.
Yes, but vinegar works too.

Yes...salt helps set in colors. Just make sure you don't pure it onto the clothes...it will also pull out colors where it sits on them. Fill washer to low setting and add salt before your clothes...let it dissolve and then add clothes and reset water level to proper setting.
