Do you have a septic tank?
Has anyone done any work (digging) in the back yard?
If you are on city sewers:
Sounds like the pipe is busted that goes from your laundry to the sewer. Call the plumber and probably the bank too. Not a cheap fix if the washer is dumping in the yard. Also one you can't put off. If the mess doesn't get you, the city will.
If you are on septic, it is time to clean the septic tank out. Again, call the septic tank company that deals with this, and the bank.
Sounds like you have a broken pipe. Good luck.
