What is the best way to wash a water bottle?

i put gatorade in my water bottle for a basketball game. I don't know how to wash it so that i can't taste the soap or the gatorade. What is the best way to wash a water bottle?
The easiest way to clean it would be put it in your dishwasher and wash it along with all your other dishes. This works if its a wide mouth bottle.

If its an aluminum bottle, do NOT use any harsh detergents or caustic cleaning agents- they will damage the aluminum. A few drops of dish soap, and fill the bottle with hot water, close the cap, shake for a while, then empty and rinse. Use frequent SMALL quantities of water when you rinse it out. Make sure the lid is on tightly and also gets washed and rinsed. It could easily be a source of trapped sugar and flavorings.

Set it on a dish-rack to air dry... it should be just fine

If it's a metal water bottle, put one of those SOS pads (or competing brand) in it and fill it a third full of hot water. Close and shake with all your might. Empty. Repeat. Pull the SOS pad out. Put a little water in, close, shake, repeat 4 times.

If it's a plastic water bottle, stuff a dish-cloth in there and some dish soap. Make sure you use hottest water you can and open it slowly when you open it. It'll squirt soap everywhere because the hot water expands the air.

When rinsing, the idea isn't to use a lot of water so much as it is to fill shake empty several times. This dilutes the soap and gets it out much better than even filling it full and dumping it out over and over.

Good luck.
Wash it with hot, soapy water and rinse well. Then, put a couple of teaspoons of baking soda in it, fill it up with water and let it sit for an hour or so. Rinse well, let dry and the odors should be gone.
Turn your taps on as hot as they will go and just wash it out using the hot water. Hot water kills most germs and the pressure will remover any excess stickyness or juice
